Masjid at Galle Road, Colombo, Sri Lanka
The Dawoodi Bohra Community which numbers about 2000 in Colombo is a renowned business community. In the late 1990s the community decided to build a larger masjid complex on the site of the existing smaller masjid.
A.Jivanjee Architect was appointed as architects for this project.
This new project comprises of a larger Masjid Hall, a sahn space behind with required utilities. To the North attached to the project is the building which has the community Jamaat offices and residential apartment for the head of the community in SriLanka and for His Holiness.
The site is located on a seafront site off Galle road and enjoys a clear view of the sea at all levels. Fatimi architectural details form an important and composite part of the project.
