Restoration of Jame Anwar, Cairo, Egypt (with Hassan Fathy)

Initiated in 1977 by the late His Holiness Dr.Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin(AQ) the 52nd Dai of the Dawoodi Bohra community.

The masjid the 4th largest in the world was built by Imam Hakim Biamrillah during the Fatimi era in Egypt. It comprises of an area of about 13,600 sq.m. Through history it had suffered from the vagaries of time as well as suffering from a major earthquake in the 15th centuary

Hassan Fathy was appointed as the lead architect for this restoration project. A.jivanjee Architect had a chance to assist Hassan Fathy on this project. Traditional building method was ncouraged by Hassan Fathy to revive the tradition. Modern technology was applied to insure that this monument will not suffer again from earthquakes. Indeed during recent earthquake the structure has not suffered any damage.
